The Corral, Middlewood
“So what have you done at Cubs/Scouts/Explorers this evening?”
“We’ve been to Middlewood building fires/making shelters/playing a wide game…”
I’m sure you’ve had this conversation with your Cub or Scout on more than one occasion but where exactly is Middlewood? Middlewood is a fantastic location for Scouting activities as it’s close enough to walk to on a normal meeting night, there’s woodland there which makes it perfect for playing games, gathering firewood or building bivvies (rough shelters) and many other activities. On occasion, it’s really useful for us to either meet there or have the Cubs or Scouts picked up there.
There are 2 easy ways to get to what we call “the corral”. This is a small clearing just off the lane that runs from the A6 to the small marina at “The Moorings”.
Along the canal – You can walk along the tow path from the bridge at the A6, heading towards Macclesfield. Approx 100m before you reach Middlewood Road there is a flight of steps leading up to the road and just to the right is the corral.
Drive via Middlewood Road – Across the Road from the Royal Oak pub on the A6 is Middlewood Road. Follow this towards High Lane Cricket Club, past the houses and follow the road as it bends to the left by the private road. Just along this road on the right is the corral.
Chances are that your child has been there before so why not test their navigation skills and let them lead you there!
