Space Camp 2013

18 July 2013

The mission was accepted….

Dunham Park Camp Site was the destination….

And what a voyage of discovery it was. Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Leaders and Parents all had a fantastic time.

Perfect weather held over the entire weekend, with sun cream slashed around liberally and dozens of gallons of juice drunk to keep everyone hydrated.

The members were rearranged into cross-sectional patrols named after famous space exploration missions and everyone had individualised bandanas.

Activities enjoyed by young people included archery, shooting, climbing, abseiling, canoeing, pond dipping, grass sledging, water rockets, cricket, rope bridge, Danish long ball and more.

And everyone enjoyed a hog roast for tea before a camp fire requiring extensive audience participation.

More than 100 members and supporters of the Scout group attended Saturday and 127 Nights Away were recorded – beating last year’s Group Camp by 27 per cent in just 12 months.

Two Explorer Scouts were presented with their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards, one Scout with his Chief Scout’s Gold Award and two new Beaver Scouts were invested at the camp fire.

The weekend was fun packed – and one where water fights were positively encouraged!
