Going for Gold!

19 July 2013

I was proud to be invited to the Chief Scout Gold Award presentation night at Linnet Clough Scout Camp on Thursday 18thJuly. Two of our Explorers, James and Jack were receiving their Gold awards which they have completed after moving up to Explorers from Scouts. The Gold award is the highest in the Scout section and James and Jack have worked very hard to achieve it. They have gained all 9 Challenge badges including their Expedition Challenge, which will prove to be useful training before they embark on their Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards in the Explorer section.

James and Jack - Chief Scout Gold

James & Jack receive their Chief Scouts Gold award

Their awards were presented by Scouting’s North West Regional Commissioner Chris Harris. Chris took the time to speak to James and Jack after the presentation and to congratulate them on their achievement.James and Jack told him they had had a great time in Scouts and really enjoyed all the camps. James commented it had all been brilliant “Even finding a toad had hitched a ride home in my rucksack after summer camp last year!”
I’m glad you’re carrying on with your Scouting adventure” Chris Harris told them. “You’ll find that being able to put things like the Gold award on your CV will impress prospective employers and give you an edge in the job market

I’m proud of James and Jack, as I have been of every Scout who has achieved their Gold award. I’m looking forward to the autumn because if things go according to plan, we should have another seven Scouts at the next award ceremony, which I’m hoping will be more than any other Scout troop in the County!
