Rock Climbing at Windgather Rocks

On July 4th, Scouts will be meeting at Windgather Rocks near Kettleshulme for an evening of rock climbing and abseiling.  The activity will be led by Rope Race who will be providing the instructors and all equipment necessary.  This is not a climbing wall but a natural rock face escarpment.

So that everyone will have the opportunity to climb, we’ve arranged for multiple simultaneous climb positions of different heights and difficulty allowing even the more nervous climbers to stretch themselves and have a go.  We’ve also a range of abseil points from easy to challenging.

How much does it cost?

Nothing!  Your monthly subscriptions goes toward providing many of the normal evening activities we take part in from pancake ingredients to bigger activities like rock climbing.

How to get there

Windgather Rocks is located approximately 1km SSW of the village of Kettleshulme, near Whaley Bridge at grid reference SJ 994 782.

Be Prepared! – A guide to suitable clothing and uniform requirements

Scouts will need to wear their blue activity polo shirts and neckers but no uniform shirts.  A jumper or other warm clothing will also be needed.

Suitable footwear for climbing in and coats and hats for the weather conditions on the night will also be required as it can get very cold and windy at Windgather (hence the name!).

Scouts will be wearing climbing harnesses so please bear this in mind when choosing clothes for the evening.
